Squirrel Appreciation Day

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day

Remember how it’s cold in the land? Remember how I live in a suburb? Ok then….where would you suggest that I find a squirrel. Granted, I could trek out into the middle of nowhere but who has that kind of time. No…if I couldn’t find a squirrel, I would become the squirrel. Now now…I know what you’re thinking, “How can someone become a squirrel?” I assure you it is quite possible. The key is to think acorn-y thoughts and perfect a squirrel-face! This afternoon, I donned pants, my fur hat, a bag of pistachios (that’s all we had, and squirrels would eat them too if they decided to be high class), my brown coat, sensible shoes, and my camera. With my camera safely stowed, I made my ascent. Might I recommend not climbing a tree in the winter…the snow presents many an issue. Might I also suggest not sporting a fur hat…also problematic…seeing that it became friends with various branches.  Also, disregard the neighbors. Many uncomfortable looks will shoot in your direction. I chose to employ the vigorous hand wave a bright smile technique, which always seems to diffuse tension and confusion. However, once I perched myself and became one with the nuts and the open air, I transformed into a free squirrel-y spirit. I nestled a little nut into the tree just in case my squirrel friends decided to make an appearance and felt a bit peckish.
