Happy Bittersweet Chocolate Day
What could be more decadent than watching Chocolat with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche, wearing brown and eating Extra Dark Chocolate Truffles from Godiva?! I ask you! My answer to you is: nothing. Every time I watch that movie I am captured by Vianne’s (Juliette Binoche) spinning Aztec wheel. It is a wooden wheel expertly carved and painted in such a way that when said wheel is spun, different images appear to different people. The invitation “what do you see” enchants all to peer into its spinning depths. What they see helps Vianne discern what her customer’s favorite chocolate is….or should be. For the woman who sees a woman riding a wild horse, s an adventurous tangy chocolate with a little chili pepper to play against the sweetness is her favorite. For the young artist who sees teeth, blood, and a skull, nothing but very dark bitter chocolate will do. Oh how I wish I could peer into that spinning wheel, but I have a feeling mine would be very much like the woman on the horse. I recently tried some hot chocolate with chili powder and I was undone.
