First Footer's Day

January 1, 2013

I suppose I should begin by wishing all within the clicking of my keyboard a most excellent new year! You all, I am sure, have your resolutions firmly weaved into the fibers of your persons, and will not allow them to fall by the way come January 25th. I, on the other hand, need a bit more assistance, hence the creation of this blog. Allow me to explain. The other day, I said to myself, “Self, do you remember anything? What has happened in your life? Tell me your details.” You can imagine my surprise, A. that I could be so demanding and B. that I couldn’t recall recent details of my life let alone old ones. Either I have caught myself in early stages of mental degeneration…..quite possible…..or….I haven’t done anything worth remembering….either way I’ve decided to take a stand and undertake the following challenge. A few months ago I discovered that pretty much every day has it’s own holiday…..from the syndicated to the bizarre. For the next 365 days I will celebrate my life by celebrating these holidays and to prove that I’m having a good time I will provide evidence….of the photographic variety.  If you were to ask me what I did March 24, 2009….I could not tell you to save my life, but this year when you ask me what I did for Chaos-Never-Dies-Day or Go-To-Work-Only –If-It’s –Fun-Day, prepare for a typhoon of  whimsy and intrigue with the mental images so vivid you will be able to feel the carpet beneath your feet and the smell of pot stickers in the air……that is….if my stories happen to include those details. I shall not guarantee carpet nor pot stickers everyday…. Too much cabbage!....but I digress.  No time like the present….

Allow me to wish you a…..
Happy First Footer Day!
I learned about first footing when I was in Alnwick, England last year. First footing, as I understand it, is the first visitor you have in the new year…..the first foot over your threshold! You have a delicious beverage and a bit of a chat. My good friend Kate the Great was happy to oblige me. We had the most wonderful evening! You can’t go wrong with a Fun Bun AND a bedazzled crown on your head! Good start to the new year! Here’s to you, 2013! I have a goo feeling about you!
